Kresge Innovative Projects: Detroit Plus (KIP:D+) – Cultural Heritage
Since 2017, Michigan Community Resources has supported The Kresge Foundation's KIP:D+ program with application support, technical assistance, and programmatic guidance. In 2026, we are proud to support the 10th round of the program. Over the past year, KIP:D+ paused while partners reflected on feedback from past applicants and grantees, reviewing the program with an independent organization to learn from past rounds and make informed improvements. The group also worked with a resident advisory group representing all districts of Detroit, Hamtramck, and Highland Park.
As a result, this year reflects the evolution of a program now almost a decade old and launches with a new focus — supporting arts, culture, and community projects that help neighborhoods remember their history and carry forward their community legacy.
Is this grant right for your project?
KIP:D+ Cultural Heritage may be a good match if your project:
- Serves Detroit, Hamtramck, or Highland Park residents
- Is shaped by community voices
- Connects to culture, history, identity, or belonging
- Improves neighborhood quality of life or activates something new
- Is ready to begin soon
- Reflects the community in its leadership and participation
Projects should be planned, designed, and implemented by community members - especially residents who are often left out of decision-making.
• Storytelling projects
• Archiving projects
• Public art or permanent installations
• Exhibitions
• Neighborhood signage
• Cultural events
• Activating community spaces
• Placekeeping or placemaking projects
• Parks, cultural spaces, or landscapes
KIP:D+ Cultural Heritage will NOT fund:
• Ongoing programming
• Plans to develop a future project that isn’t ready to launch
• Capacity-building projects
• Real estate development
MCR Supports KIP:D+ Applicants
In 2026, MCR will continue to provide the same support to applicants and grantees as we have over the entire history of this partnership.
Our KIP:D+ application assistance and technical support is tailored to meet the needs of organizations at any point in the program. MCR works to connect clients with the resources and tools they need to see their projects through.

MCR Application Assistance sessions will pair organizations with an MCR team member for direct consultation on their KIP:D+ grant application. Sessions will be held both virtually, and in person. All sessions are drop-in, and participants can arrive at any time within the timeframe. Virtual sessions will require an RSVP to receive the Zoom link. There may be unexpected wait times depending on capacity and we ask for your patience as we work to meet with you all.
Some sessions will be open only to organizations with budgets of $500,000 or less. While these sessions are exclusive to that budget size, organizations with budgets under $500k can attend any session.
